For the second year in a row, the European Championship (“EC”) returned to its usual venue – Zu Den Vier Winden – in Bochum, Germany on September 8-10. “To the Four Winds”, as the venue is translated, continues to be the heart of the Star Wars CCG European Community, where the EC and “Euro Worlds” have been held numerous times previously, and where the 2024 World Championship event is planned to take place.
The winner of the event was Belgian veteran player Cedrik Vanderhaegen, who went 6-2 on Day 2 to earn #7 seed, taking down a close final confrontation against the German #4 seed Quirin Fürgut in a final confrontation on Day 2.
Rounding out the Main Event Top 8 were Jonas Hagen Nørregard, Mike Kessling, Emil Wallin, Justin Branch, Angelo Consoli, and Koen Meijsson. Cedrik had a tough road through Day 2, fighting his way through #1 Jonas and #2 Mike before the final confrontation, while Quirin defeated #5 Justin and #3 Emil on his way to the finals.
The most popular decks played at the EC event were a wide variety and included SSA Tatooine, ISB, AoBS, and Hunt Down for DS, and a good amount of Skywalker Saga and Obi Communing decks for LS. Check out the decklists page for the event to see all the decks used by every player. Be sure to also read up on a tournament report posted about the weekend from Cedrik and potentially others soon. Thanks to all TR writers for sharing their experiences with the community! The Welsh team also compiled a picture journal of their trip, so check that out too!
Some of the other highlights of the weekend included:
- A myriad of Prize Support supplied by the PC and supplemented by the European organizers’ pool of swag that never ceases to amaze.
- Another visit from members of the local German 501st division!
- A Friday night Competitive Sharpie Team Event
